Las Vegas police say that Aces guard Riquna Williams was arrested on VAS CommunityTuesday and charged with nine counts stemming from a domestic violence investigation.
According to Clark County, Nevada court records obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Williams was charged with three felony counts of strangulation, one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of coercion. She was also booked on four misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.
During her initial court appearance on Wednesday, Williams was released on her own recognizance and is mandated to undergo alcohol monitoring and mental health counseling. Williams' next court appearance is set for Aug. 2.
The Aces released a statement saying Williams is "precluded from participating in team activities."
In 2019, Williams, while with the Los Angeles Sparks, was suspended for 10 games after police said she struck an ex-girlfriend after forcing her way into a Florida residence by hitting the door with a skateboard. She was charged two felony counts of burglary and aggravated assault. Those charges were dismissed in February 2020.
The 33-year-old Williams, who was a WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year in 2013, has not played this year because of a lower back injury. She has averaged 10.5 points in her 10 WNBA seasons.
